with Bill Mackenzie, Mrs. Denny's nephew. Billy has been doing some splendid work out here, and now wears the violet and white of the Military Cross. While with Billy one evening in the Savoy Hotel I met his uncle a Mr. Denny, who is head of the American Associated Press in Europe. He seemed a very jolly sort of man, and, I could see, thought a great deal of his nephew. He told us that the Hun was expected to start his push the day we get back to France so we thought we would be back in time to help hold him. However, the wise ones were mistaken, for he has not threatend yet, though the weather has been glorious for several days. For my part I'd be tickled to death if he'd wait about six weeks more, for then I will have put in six months in France and will apply to go to England or Canada – preferably the latter – for a period of
