three others were being sent somewhere else under four guards on a train.

Pat made some excuse to open a window, complaining of the closeness. He then worked around getting into a favorable position and jumped out the window with the train moving over 30 miles an hour! Of course he was knocked unconscious for a short time, but as the train was not stopped till it was nearly two miles farther on he managed to get away and hide. After that he travelled by night and hid by day, living on sugar beets and turnips and cabbage. He had to swim rivers and canals, managed to get a civvy suit from
