played quite a lot of bridge and am beginning to see some of the fine points of the game. With a little practice to get my hand in I began to like the game and get very interested in my playing, which I had hitherto failed to do.

I think there is nothing more to tell you of as yet, and as it is nearly tea-time (4:00 p.m.) I will say goodbye for to-day.

Sunday, Oct.7

We are now in the danger zone and about two days out of Liverpool. The wind is blowing great guns to day and the ships are pitching about in great shape. This morning [illegible] came shooting along to meet us, and are spread out all around the ships. It is a wonder to most of us how they can live in a sea like this. When they get in the trough of the sea, all that can be seen of them is the tops of their funnels and stumpy masts.
