As part of the Chinese Historical Wrongs Legacy Initiative, we’ve digitized a small selection of inquests and inquiries from 1872 to 1934, found in series GR-0431. These were chosen to reflect the experiences of early Chinese immigrants to B.C. – their living and working conditions, and their unfortunate accidental or unusual deaths.   They range from a woman working in a brothel in Barkerville who died of natural causes to three sawmill workers who died from malnutrition. Learn more.

A; No nothing. Q; What color was painted on the gate? A; Gray. Q; Did you find any color corresponding to any part of the automobile? A; Yes, and one headlight with a dent in it and its green. A; The night I want over was so foggy you could not see. Q; Do you know the rate of speed you are allowed to go over? A; Perfectly, yes. Q; How do you know that? A; Provincial laws and signs all over the bridge. Q; What part of the auto would strike the gates first? A; Part over the front wheels. Q; Before the lamps? A; Yes.
