As part of the Chinese Historical Wrongs Legacy Initiative, we’ve digitized a small selection of inquests and inquiries from 1872 to 1934, found in series GR-0431. These were chosen to reflect the experiences of early Chinese immigrants to B.C. – their living and working conditions, and their unfortunate accidental or unusual deaths. They range from a woman working in a brothel in Barkerville who died of natural causes to three sawmill workers who died from malnutrition. Learn more.

To Mr Young - I think Mr Leonard told me that Mr [?In Chequer] wished me to stand by number two to see if any signals came from the bottom of number two. I heard no signals and none left it until driven away by the flames
To the Foreman I was in charge of the fan engine at the time of the explosion My shift was just about over and Curry was coming on. I saw the men in their I did not suppose that those who came in there and increased the speed of the fan did [?] without one thing and I did not interfere
To a Juryman I cannot say what effort the increased speed of the fan would have upon the fire.
Taken upon oath and acknowledged this 1tth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eight seven before me.
