1st Witness (4)

James Dunsmuir, Manager of Wellington Mine having been duly sworn states. I have been manager of the Wellington Mine for three years. I have made a Survey of the Mine & also a Plan of the Workings. I produce a Plan of the workings of No. 10 Level & also shewing a portion of the Slope, this plan is marked A. I also produce a Plan marked B. showing the whole of the workings of the mine. these plans are both correct to the best of my knowledge & belief. I have proved the accuracy of Plan B. by measuring the distance between no. 5 & no. 3. levels and also the distance between the other levels. The black Arrows on the plan A. indicate the course of the air when the level was in good working order, the red Arrows indicate the course of the air when we were working at the fire on Wednesday morning and up to the time of the explosion. The course of the air was diverted for the purpose of extinguishing the fire, by Raising the Curtain at the opening of upper 10 (no.1) level And
