I then thought I heard some one moaning down below & went on down to see & found Mathew McDonell & George Brown. I called out to the men who where with me that I had found the injured men. I immediately picked up McDonell & carried him until I met the other man coming who carried him a few yards farther & then said they could not stand it & had to lay him down & proceed to the fresh air. On getting to fress air [?] fresh men went down & I returned with them to show them where the men were lying. James McInnes said the would have to lay him down & go to the fresh air & I had only proceeded about 10 yards when I fell unconscious. I remember no more.
