had been killed on the Duck Creek trail by Bears and asked who had gone on the trail that morning -

By the Coroner - How long after your arrival at the Forks did you give the alarm?

Answer About five minutes!

Ah Ching - Sworn says - On Thursday last the 4th July about half past one oclock in the afternoon on my way from Keithley crossing to the Forks of Quesnelle when about 4 miles on the trail, I heard the growl of a Bear, and close by I saw a hat, handkerchief and a bag with some tobacco lying on the ground - I thought there was something wrong and hurried to get away when a large brown Bear came out of the brush and gave chase to me, I lost my hat but could not dismount to pick it up the Bear press'd me so close - I did not know at the time "Ing Com" was on the way home - I knew "Ing Com" he was my cousin -

By W. P. Barry - Did you see any bones when you first saw the hat?

Answer - No!

After I got away from the Bear I made the best of my way for the Forks - I met a party of men who asked me if I had seen "Ing Com" as they were afraid he was killed by a Bear
