June 9th. Again we have to climb a mountain 5500 ft high to triangulate distance across valley which is impossible to chain we are getting quite mountaineers and each one sees who will be there first. The surveyor & I take things rationally and take our time as there is really no hurry and they can't do anything before we get there, we see [illegible] of Ptarmigan up here. No birds themselves. Also regular Scotch heather and now everyone is crazy to find the first piece of white heather. Back to camp at 6 p.m. good supper and then to bed.

June 19th. Move camp 5 miles further today come across one bear which makes things lively for a while. Fellows scatter in every direction up trees behind stump but bear gets
