most delicious bread it is: we move camp up the lake about two miles, shifting camp in canoes. All is comfortably fixed up by 3 p.m. and all are waiting the evening repast which is served at 6 p.m.

April 26th. Today we go on much the same sort of country as before: rough rocky land covered with moss which is as the [illegible] call it "Cultus" meaning not fit for man or beast and splendidly formed for such land: We are at the foot of "Thunder" mountain, named by Indians because they declare a large bird dwells there which when rising flaps its wings together so hard it resembles peals of thunder.

April 27th. No sign of the bird we are on top of mountain now which is covered with 10 ft of snow hard
