Conducting Draft to Winchester 1916 30 days 20 THURSDAY (111-255) (20 to 23 ) April
Maundy Thursday
Midnight to 6 am at Bristol - Turn men loose to get grub at Soldiers' Home - the Yankee Young gets mixed up with some foulmouthed girls - Hung up 1 1/2 hrs. at Westbury + Newbury - No transport to meet us at Winchester - start to march men out, but are met by officers in motor. Visit Lashly's brother in hospital. Attend service in Cathedral - Back to Newbury.
21 GOOD FRIDAY (112-254)
Drive of 15 miles with Mr. Elliott around by Hatcham + Bucklebury - old oak beams in latter church 1591 - church much older - old square box pews. Writing letters in afternoon + Taken to contata "the Crucifixion" in the evening.
22 SATURDAY (113 - 253) Easter Even
Walk past Newbury Race Course + down the river + spend hour in the museum. Wire from Adjutant to report to Bexhill tomorrow. Russell Elliott motors up from town.
23 EASTER DAY (114-252) St. George
Leave for London 7.50 AM - meet 67th Bn. Signaller Davy at Charing Cross + attend service at St. Pauls. Go out to Young's at Highgate - Young comes in with me to town. Travel to Bexhill, with Lt. MacFarlane who left Victoria a year ago with the Princ. Pat draft.
