Tuesday July 12th

Spend day on Hunters Ave, in big dugouts which leak badly - rain all night - - On guard 1-3 am - German lines 250 yds & bullets constantly zipping threw the foliage - Catch the new machine gun officer vainly hunting for his command which at daybreak we find at [illegible] farm.

Wednesday July 13th 14th Today we are moved down to the old firing line - little forts with steel-loop hole plates - Kitten crossed my loophole while I was Told off To locale German snipers by watching for the flash of their rifles. Small dirty dugout here and flies galore all day - (Anscomb - a boy from a Victoria bank shares one corner C He is badly wounded with the shell that kills Court early in September)
