[illegible] Down South Salisbury Plain Nov. 14-14
Dear Griff
I dropped the slaughter of germans for
a few hours and visited Elias de Durham Lodge 586 within a small dogs bark of Salisbury spire. In military rank I was junior to the two officers who were visiting with me, so the brutes made me go through the swear [illegible] and then vouch for them.
First [illegible] out of the box I fogot the name
of Noah and all his descendants, but they gradually came back to my memory and I was able to sneer condescendingly at my friends the Majors. There was to have been a 3rd [illegible] but military duties kept him away. The tools and ornaments were impressive and its work would have been well done. never more than one at Lodge, and no emergencies I believe.
We knew nobody there had found
that one old friend Thos Fletcher was a P.M. of this Lodge. Many of the old ones knew him & were delighted to hear of him. Kindly [illegible] Fletcher Jr know [illegible] when you meet.
All well here & up to the knees in work
and mud. Give as always my love to Mrs. Griff and continue to write regularly
to Yours [illegible] JH McInyn[?] Capn [illegible]
