Darling Mum:

Thought I had better drop you a line to let you know how I am getting along. Am feeling pretty fit now. My legs ache a bit yet, but nothing to speak of. I have been getting your letters returned to me from France. I suppose you didn't celebrate Christmas much at home this year. We didn't here. Nobody in England bothered with it much
