My darling Lola

Many thanks for your letters and papers which I was awfully glad to get, my letters seem to be fortunate as some of the others have not had letter thro at all.

Since I wrote last we have had a terrible time, a number of our officers have been wounded and gone home, but this regiment has been very fortunate compared with the others. At present we are having a few days rest, but even now the guns are going hard all round and shrapnel is bursting fairly near. Fortunately crowds of soldiers have arrived here and the place is full of english and French troops so I hope that things will not be so strenuous. This regiment has done splendid work.

There is so much that I would like to tell you but cannot do so. I hope I will get back some day and tell you about it. Noone can have any idea how terrible this war is and this seems to be the very hottest corner. I am glad to hear that you are going north for a holiday, it will be a nice change. The weather here is splendid I am glad to say.

Some of those small very strong peppermints would be welcome and a knitted Balaclava cap. Will heaps of love and kisses Love ever Cevil
