there is any moan [?] to speak of. According to his last report, he destroyed three of our hangars here and damaged one destroyer which was seen to be taken in tow by another. The truth is that he dropped ten bombs, one of which killed two donkeys, the remainder exploded harmlessly in open country and the sea. we have taken to sleeping in the moreek[?] now, last night we had to get up about 4 times to stiafe[?] rats, they are getting altogether too familiar, I draw the line at them thinking that they are entitled to share one's bed. I am glad that you like the lace, the remainder of it ought to have arrived by now, I hope that it will be alright, but I expect the Maltese idea of a butterfly may be somewhat off. I hope that my photograph had turned up by now as I have not had it sent back this time. How is the back now. I suppose that it is getting accustomed by dangers[?] to the work, why they do not allow you to sit down difants[?] me. Your Typing is certainly[?] quite good, in fact it is somewhat more legible than some of your letters, I have to guess a good many of the words sometimes. The same applies, onbly more so, to my own writing. I think it is splendid of you helping your father like that, things are bound to turn out alright for him in the long run, as bad luck cannot go on for long. Why do you laugh at the man talking about 'a subaltern', it is quite covert and all the older officers in regular regiments do so, subaltern is quite a quaint way of pronouncing it only about 10 years old.
