came from Victoria, they were Misses Lloyd, Rogers, McNaughton James. They tell me that Vancouver is not a pat[?]an Victoria, what do you think? They were a delightful lot and came to Tan[?] in my little submarine and got very hot, thermometer at 107 [degrees] and no ice, but they would do it and apparently enjoyed it too, at least, they said so. I went to a concert at their hospital one evening, they could not [?] and to dinner, so they insisted on going without any themselves and one played very bad gold instead. Then the concert came along, [?] was one of them who played the piano awfully well, but I am afraid that her intepretation of Debussy was [?] American, which I was not unfinished at when I heard her talk, she came from Toronto. There were thi[?] of the staff, a baritans, t[?] bass who [?]gtions[?] awfully well. it was a glorious evening and I enjoyed it very much, except for the the five mile walk back in the middle of a dark night along an [?] for a round, poles about 2 feet deep full of dirt. I have three days before the mail goes out as I am going to continue thislatare[?].

11:7:16 Last night we saw a fearful smash, some R.W.H.S land planes were up, one of them apparently had engine trouble and could not make land and had to come down in the water by one of our cruisers. Just when he was about 30 ft above water, the left wing broke off along to the Nacella[?] and he turned over sideways and came down in the water. The machine sank like a stone taking down both pilot & observer, it was a ghastly night. Talking about our planes, old man Turk and his pal Fritz are still very attentive to us when
