they put in a hell of a lot of side - they got nervous when it came to a real show down. It was then that I having no experience or knowledge at all, put on the side, and took absolute command. It was damn good practice for me and made our Headquarters at Equinge(?) (the garden of the Coach and Horse Inn). There was I sitting on a chair in a pretty garden smoking and on a table in front of me with maps and drinks on it - receiving messages and issuing orders. A company represented a Battalion and there was I thoroughly enjoying myself whilst 3500 men and officers sweated out over the country and moved and did as what I ordered.

The typical section man comes from my headquarters (the Inn) to the Headquarters of the various columns, so that I was always in telephonic communication with all my troops. It was just ripping.

I feel that as the report sent in from the staff was so good.

Goodbye dear old girl. Lot of luck to you.

Please remember me to both your father and mother.
