                                                      Half tide at Cordova Bay

view over the water includes in the fore Uplands' oak-treed slopes with red roofed houses lightening the dark of the green, and afar off the rising piles of the snowy Olympics. Blue waters dotted with yawls and launches of the Yacht Club, and Summer crowds of holiday makers, give this beach a sense of liveliness and happiness which lasts without a break from June until the end of the long Summer school holiday.

                                                    Bathe All Day
Cordova Bay has a different attraction altogether. The day tripper is welcome but the distance makes the beach draw its patrons from the motoring section of the populace. On the other hand there are sources of happy families installed in an extensive array of Summer cottages, and the wonderful stretch of shelving beach provides an all day appeal to the campers to "come on in, the water's fine." It is a fact that many wear their bathing suits for hours at a time. Cordova is never as crowded as the the closer in beach, and indeed it would take all the residents of Victoria to make that vast strand appear over populous.
Cordova Bay makes its appeal to the lover of the rustic as well as to the marine minded. The little cliff which marks the beach's limit carries on its crest a highway which leads in but a few hundred yards through some of the prettiest farming scenery of the Island.
The results of years of labor by earlier settlers show themselves in level well cultivated fields, generally margined by woodlots which are year after year growing smaller. Today they provide a touch rural beauty which makes strong appeal to the farmer from the flattened bald Prairie lands.
                                                    Good Roads to Beaches
There are several routes which will take a motoring party to Cordova, and all are well provided with gem-like settings awaiting the appreciative eye. Possibly as good as any is to visit Cadboro Bay, and from thence by a cut through the Gordon Head district on Finnerty Road and Arbutus Road, and so northward to Cordova, returning by Shelbourne Street, with a wary eye to the police traps which are now being prepared for the incautious speeder who would unduly hurry a Sunday afternoon's drive worthy of many a stop.

                                                    Care of Tires
Don't let oil, grease or gasoline remain on your tires. They all destroy rubber. Wash only with pure cold water and a little soap.

                                                    Sooty Plug Troubles
When the spark plug develops missing as a result of being sooted and no means of removal is at hand, as may happen sometimes on the road. the plug can be made to fire regularly again by disconnecting the lead and introducing an auxiliary gap of one-eighth or one-quarter between it and the plug terminal.
