Dec - Rather put out at being invaded on Sunday but they made the best of it. Shade trees all along some streets all barked & killed by German cavalry as the people told us. 1 franc = 1 mrk 40 [illegible]; 5frcs = 7 mrks

9. My bilelt is Vebaby a lady Dr. Peters with 2 small boys George & ENNO. All the household quite friendly. The houses are like American houses - well built, clean, convenient but not homelike

10. Sunshine - Some of our staff went right through German lives Z& formed country full of G. soldiers & flags & hdqrs in full swing & They wer not even stopped.

11. Maj Armour tried first war crime. Graf von. of Schmidthein for not giving up his arms (acquitted). Sentry shot a G. civilian in act of stealing parcel mail.

12. DivHqrs moved to Pappelsdorfer Allee BONN aix Rhein. Rode over with Chaupeux Maj Wells Senior Chapn. Very enjoyable though v. dull weather. Billet very good - B. Mess in Corps Hausea - a military fraternity or club - principally for beer [illegible], then fencing. Fine building well furnished - wall covered with momentos & portraits presented by members - also memorials to cultivate military & patriotic spirit of personal pride. My billet No 45 occupied a floor by Fran Dickenhofer. The occupants seem frightened but anxious to do what is required.
