Aug 5th. C&B lost Gen'l JM Ross (wounded) & staff Capt Pete Campbell wounded & the B.M. Major (Hiram) Walker killed - Major Sidney Burnham GSO 3 2nd Cdn Divs killed all by the same shell. Col Oliver Jones (Aarrer) 21st Bn killed & Col Wise of 26 Bn seriously wounded.
13 - Up to last night when operations halted for a moment 4th Army had taken over 20000 prisrs incldg 3 Regl Commanders 20 Bn Commanders, 3 Arty Bde Comdrs, 600 offrs in all - 1 Corps & 3 Div Hqrs taken - over 400 guns - several thous [?] & numerous Tns. (I was reinoculated. Very hot).
14. Major Rispin went forward to Adv. Div. Hq. Prisrs 24362.
16. Had a splendid Swim in R Avre near Amiens with Maj G. Birch D.A.D.O.S & Capt Hickman 2C.D.A.
18. Moved to WIENCOURT. Camped in [?] tents. I had had diarrhea all night. Considerable bombing & some shelling. Several cas. from ammun dump probably set off by booby trap or delayed action mine.
