1917

Our B, C & D (as were caught by enemy barrage while lying on starting tape & enemy opened a heavy attack about 5 mins before ours. We lost all officers of B., C & D Co & all of A except Lt James. 7 officers killed, 7 wounded & about 370 men casualties. Desperate hand to hand fighting with bombs & everything handy for several hours (see in narrative of operations). CSM Robert Hanna earned & received a V.C. & he escaped without a wound. He was at once given a commission.

Killed - Lts McGibbon, McKinnon, Sutherland, Uouks, R.E. Montgomery, Corbett & Harry Carter.

Wounded - Capt Abbott, Capt Flyne, Lt Aldworth, Major Guimett, Lts Smith, Garrett, Gordon, Wilson & Enright.

23/24. This night Bn came out to Fosse 10. Col Latta quite exhausted & all H.Q. offrs fairly done up.

26. Bn to [intelligible] - good billets - 27 Bn there also 31st [intelligible] 28th in Ohlaine .

31. Weather broken with rain gales 30. Bn gave successful concert in YMCA hut
