July 22 Sund. Col JW Ross give bMC.J. Bde - went for a walk with him when he told me of his flaws. Bn left Bouvigny & went into the line in Leus sector (Lieveir) taking over four 18 [intelligible] & was nearly caught by a shell.

23. Major Latta now [intelligible]

24, Heavy bombardment on left front in early morning & attempted raid on outpost. 7 cas. This night relieved by 54 Bn - Sawa Carew Martin. honed into same sector.

25. Relieved by 87 Bn & moved into Div Res. at Maroc. Rather exciting ride with Major [intelligible] through the darkness over shell torn road through much traffic of [intelligible]. At our new billet - shaken to pieces & deafened by our own artillery - I had 19 cas. by one shell with instantaneous fuse. Weather variable. Working parties every night. Several days now. This was an uncomfortable place - considerable enemy shelling & [intelligible] probation.

Aug 4. Relieved by 20th Bn & moved to Bouvigny

9. Relieved 20th in Tharoc while at Bouvigny, Capt Grant Nicholls (marr & Leader) 25(?) Bn. Capt D Richardson, the Bishop (ex RN).
