May 3. Heavy shelling in neighbourhood of Aux Rietz. Div HQ had to move - v. fine & warm. 27th & 31st Bns attacked at Dawn. Fairly successful but casualties rather heavy.
May 4. Saw EC Hart of 16th Bn & W. Langley & brought them to lunch. Transport lines moved farther South. Bn moved into front line.
" 7. Bn relieved in front line by 19th Bn. Gas shells & some casualties - Relief not complete. On right enemy retook front line but were put out - A very hot & anxious night (Arleuse). Bn lost no officers & total casulaties only 119 for the tours but the tours was one of the worst.
" 8. Bn HQ moved to Paynesley Tunnel.
" 9. Very fine. Band concert on the front line. Everyone gathering rested up.
" 12. Still hot. Bath at Maroriel.
"13. Tues [illegible] Bn moved to Rlwy Embankment over more staff stayed out with [illegible] & 8 offcrs & 85 O.R.
"14. Lt Glass reported & sent to 5nT.M.B.
"19. Lovely weather. Moved down to Bois des Alleux w [illegible] to reinforce camp.
