29 Sept. - Grand sleep. Treated like a prince. Wet & mud horrible. Quiet day in camp.

30 Sept - Thiepval Taken yesterday & line [?] N of Combles. Hurrah! Sgt Bagichevich, the [illegible] gets the W.M (& he afterwards got a bar & a D.C.m& was eventually killed in the advance on Anciens front. This man while knowing well what fear meant was always cool & daring & used excellent judgement. He was a born leader in front of the line & was much liked by officers & men . I used always to get him as a companion when I could for patrol work).

1 Octr. Mon. Marched out at 6.45 pm to garrison support trenches Miraurmont Road & N&W of Courcellette. V. fine day. All guns moving up. Long wanderings to find trench home.

2 Oct. Stayed where we were in our bunk holes. JC Ross OC C Co. & I sharing one near Bn HQ - Only a little shelling - At dusk with party of 4 sent to Verons trench which ran obliquely into Regina then held by Boche.
