Oct 14 Sat Up at 3 am. Entrained at 4:10 but still did not start till about 8 am. Changed at St Pol & reached Bruay at 3 pm. Roll call ok. Put in charge of 6th Bde reinforcements & marched out with them about 530 pm & delivered them en route to 29th at La Comté. Booth, new offr to 31st warm welcome from Mess wh now consisted of Ross, Tordiffe, Macan & McGashen.

Oct 15 Sund Marched out at 9 am. self as 2 in C. new ordnance high boots rather painful - reached Hesrin at 230 pm. Maisny a village passed through shewed signs of heavy shelling but was almost entirely rebuilt & repaired - Most cheering. Coal mines & high pyramids of slag heaps are features of this district.
