Thursd 13 July Hav'g shipped off our baggage to Lydd Howard Bridgman & I walked down there, lunching at Black Bull Newchurch gloriously. After a snooze under haystack walked on to New Romney where we has a good tea & then to Lydd to rejoin Bn. Padre took me into his tent.

Fri 14 July 3 am. To Lydd rainy. In pm did nothing. Howard & Horton warned.

Sat'd 15 July Howard & Horton left for Folkestone & went over the Channel. To the Ranges in the pm. Rec'd thro Paymaster cq bk & passbk B/M. Pall Mall show'g credit £16.8. q. Returned both to protest as to amt wh. shd. have been [$100?] for outfit & request for transfer of bal. to Union Bk of Can.

Sund 16 July Ch. Parade Lydd camp. Batting parade to Littlestone. Lunch at Grand Hotel
