May 23 After many false alarms 88th Battn CEF Col Rous Cullin commanding embarked on Princess Charlotte at 5.00 p.m. having had a magnificent + hearty + sympathetic crowd which seemed to be composed of [psnl] friends. Scene of moving colourful of massed heads on wharf seen from steamer bridge never to be forgotten. Day perfect. Saw Nell on way down + Maud + Tom in town. Also Mother Susie + Leffie at Pentrelew. Lindley walking down with me. Embarked at Vancouver. Rd 1/2 in Train No. 1 under Major Harrison Train 2 [Lt. Half  ?]including Cos. 3 + 4 under Col. Our train left at midnight. All orderly well behaved + cheerful.
