My dear Lindley

I have you letters from Sol Duc and I am sure that I owe you thanks for some unacknowledged parcel of good things. Our movements are so eccentric and frequent that all matters of routine have been completely upset. It is merely because we are expecting orders for another move at any minute + therefore can do no regular work that I have the opportunity to write. Dr. C Richardson who is Divl. Sanitary Officer just called + had a drink with me. The call was a pleasure but the drink was not. These offensives of ours have been going remarkably well. This one which began yesterday has cost us less than any other large operation. Bets are being taken that all fighting will be over before Christmas but that is optimistic.
