My dear brother

A reinoculation of typhoid gave me an excuse to say in bed this morning for a few hours and I quite enjoyed it. It is a beautiful day, a trifle warm perhaps. My tent is pitched on clean grass and there are gardens and trees nearby to shelter singing birds. The butterflies are more varied and marvellously beautiful than I remember to have seen them before. (Always excepting the wonderful carpet of swallowtails on the sand of Sooke River).

Leave is far, far away and in fact for officers it has stopped altogether. With much love your ever Arthur. I don't think I thanked you for last cake with the joke socks - tell Nell I have received two tins with chocolate ginger + socks.

Can you get enclosed letter to Miss A.E. Robertson whoever she is. Read it. There may be a clue.
