My dear brother

We are all throbbing today with the news of our advance on this front. It has been much more successful than was even expected and what is more was evidently a complete surprise to the enemy.

Until I see what has been officially published I dare not say much about it. Of course being at Divisional [illegible] Hqrs those of us who are here have seen nothing of the fight and what is more have suffered nothing from it.

The troops have done magnificently. There were several novel ideas about this attack which will probably be published later. Our hearts are gladdened by the sight of the streams of prisoners going back. Personally I have not seen them so can tell you nothing of their appearance. Amongst the casualties was Lieut. Col. Elmer W. Jones commanding a battalion
