My dear brother

First of all I want to thank for a tin of sweets + figs + raisins + then for a bunch of letters which met me on my return from leave. I forget how far I took you with me on my leave. Auntie Bar was too difficult to reach though I got a most reproachful letter from her just as I was leaving in answer to mine saying why I could not get to her. I lunched with Bea Goschen + had tea + supper with Meg + Birdie who is with her. Meg was looking better by far than I have ever seen her before. Her face has filled out + her eyes have returned to their normal importance in her face instead of startling one by their intensity of buried feeling. Birdie has changed likewise - she has lost much of her hardness and shows a great capacity for enjoyment. She works in

I have a letter from Mother for which I will thank her personally.
