My dear brother

A bunch of Victoria letters has just come in, all full of the elections then still to be. Of course we are full of wonder at many things that you and others tell us. For instance that the necessity for conscription should not be universally recognized & that many should side against it for apparently selfish motives.

Another thing is the poor class of candidate put up by the Unionist Govt. The other side would naturally put up a poor class of man. You talk of the necessity for a leader for the returned soldiers. That too will be hard to find at least for those really qualified will be so war worn when they return that they will seek nothing so much as peace - a peaceful life of a vegetable nature.
