Nearly everyone feels at times that scarcely any price would be too great to pay to have this awful business of war stop if only for a few years. It is so disheartening too to find that out of the war area there are so many not only not helping but actively hindering war work like the strikers and the recklessly and selfishly extravagant. It looks as if in Canada the majority at all events intended to help outside Quebec at all events. Where you find your grounds for believing that all will yet be well with Quebec I don't know but I hope you are right.

Everyone has been kinder than usual to me this Christmas even some that I don't expect to hear from. I enclose a letter from BS Perrin which may interest you and mother. He is evidently taking his place in the world & no doubt likes his work. So Beanlands
