This halt is probably to await the signal to advance to our objective. Then there is the last pulling together & the rise into the full fury of the battle following so closely our own artillery barrage that we have casualties from our own guns. Then the final smash with the casualties getting thicker - the clear view of the evening followed by actual contact & in some few cases by hand to hand fighting as the men jump into the trench & take possession. Then the glorious moment of shooting down the bolting Fritz. Last of all the hot work of reversing the trench & holding it under concentrated shell fire.
