As a report was imperative the O.C. post sent back his scout Barker in daylight. This man had already been wounded but not severely. He got back through our new front line to the next line wh. was in a deep chalk pit. Just on the brink he was shot again + dropped a considerable depth to the bottom. He picked himself up + reported to the O.C. this line + offered him a cigar out of the box wh. he had taken from a German + hung on to all the way
