My dear brother

We begin another month under the old time so we are not saving any more daylight.

It seems almost incredible that that a humdrum lawyer like myself of 18 months ago should be in the midst of such extraordinary activities as we have lately taken part in. We are out of the front line again after a really terrible experience. Many of us have gone on but the majority are still left.

Joe Bridgman who was in the thickest was untouched & bore himself like a gallant & seasoned warmaker. Though I was reported killed & my affects returned to base as such I am not even sure if I was touched by spent shrapnel.

These sparings seem incredible
