at this time of year trench boots to the knee are not necessary & in bad weather high gum boots are generally issued. I have however been fitted for a pair of high boots in England so that I can send for them if necessary. We all regard the future with equanimity if not cheerfulness though it has been carefully impressed on us that undue humanity toward the enemy is as much a mistake as undue zeal.

While enjoying something to eat this morning at Lady Isabelle Egerton's canteen here a clergyman offered to show us round the sights. Later on, after we had had a sorely needed bath & shave, we met him again & found that he was Canon Jocelyn Perkins who was doing YMCA
