in the danger area I think the faster ships will open up, as each ship has a [illegible] and it is a case of "every man for himself," regarding the ships as "men." You see some of the boats in this little fleet are slow old freighters and we have to go slowly so they won't be left behind. Every ship in the lot [illegible] is painted a battleship grey. It looks very businesslike. Our boat has [illegible] and this morning they had a little target practice at a small triangular target supposed to represent the conning tower of a submarine. They commenced firing at about a thousand yards and hit the blessed thing three times out of five with the ship pitching and rolling in a sea coming in on the starboard quarter.
