320 Q Have you had anything to do with preparing the case for the prosecution against the three men who were charged with murder? A No, I did not have anything to do with that; I just went up with Lem How and I come with Lem How to hear evidence.

1 Q Have you had anything to do with instructing Counsel in that case for the prosecution? A. No.

2 Q Have you had anything to do with getting ready the defence of the Defendant, Lem How, on the present charge? A. No, sir.

3 Q Did you know that a white man calling himself a Detective had been employed to work up the defence for Lem How? A. I did not know this Detective. I personally heard Mr. Grant asking Cum Wing.

COURt: Is that all, Mr. Cowan?

MR. COWAN: Yes.

COURT: You reserve your defence?

MR. COWAN. We reserve the balance of our defence.

MR. GRANT: On the charge of attempted murder or assault?

COURT: I think the charge had better remain as it is I hereby certify the foregoing to be true and accurate copy of the said proceedings.
