A;- No; I seen the lights. Q;- Going down? A;- No, over the draw. That's the first time I seen anything of the auto. Q;- Was it after that you heard these shouts? A;- Yes. Q;- Did you hear any shouts before that? A;- I didn't take notice of any. Juror;- About how far up the river would you be when you saw the lights going over the span? A;- I should judge about two hundred feet from the protection pier. Mr Ladner;- Did you distinguish the automobile? A;- I saw one light. Mr Jackson;- Did you hear the bridge tender shout before the lights were over? A;- No; I did not.

On Saturday, coming down the North Arm, with a scow of brush, we blew for the bridge, for the draw, Meantime the bridge started to open. Being rather nervous I kept my eye on the lights on the bridge we were coming to. I noticed them change from green to red. I went and spoke to the captain. I said Mr Dodson't lights are exceptionally clear tonight. Just about that time, I heard somebody shout. I said they were in difficulties. My head was in the pilot house. I said we had better launch to rowboat. We threw the boat out and he jumped in. retracted I remained on deck. We hit the pier end of the bridge, taking care to let it go. retracted I thought it was a chinese racket. It was the voice of the little girl I said where are you. After I got the boat secured I stepped up on the scow. I took the life buoys from the boat with me, threw them over in the water. I attracted a man's attention, tried to get him to swim towards the rowboat. He seemed to notice me. He sunk once, came up and he sunk. In the meantime I heard a man say I have two little girls here. I took the live one, the one that was
