Q; - After the accident what did you do?

A; - As soon as the automobile had gone into the river, I shouted for Mr Mitchell to bring his rowboat and then I went to the other end of the swing and shouted that an auto had gone in the river and to get a rowboat as quickly as possible.

Q; - And then what did you do?

A; - I went back again and climbed down onto the swing.

Q; - Which side? A; - East side where the boats were. Where the girl was. I thought I might be able to reach one but the water was too far away and I could not; kept shouting for help people were drowning.

Q; Have you made any change in these gates since the accident?

A; - I put on another lock in place of the one that was broke; I put one on that end.

Q; - Did you examine the gate for any marks made upon it by striking the woodwork?

A; - Yes; I have looked around it. I didn't see anything particular, just excepting but whether the wheel or the lamp had caught it; just what it was made by, when the other one broke it kind of slewed around.

Q; - Gate on? A; - The west side.

Q; - You didn't examine particularly the old iron pipe around which the chain is fastened?

A; - Yes; I examined the gates all around.

Q; - Iron pipe? A; - Iron pipe.

Q; - The iron pipe; I think the jury were noticing it; the iron pipe on the east gate has a small dent have you noticed any difference in its present condition and the condition before the accident?

A; - In particular places where the wheel had caught it; under there.

Mr Ladner; - Mr Dodson, do you drive a car yourself?

A; - No, sir.

Q; - Have you ever driven one? A; - No.

Q; - Have you ever ridden much in one? A; - No.
