By Mr, Potts :- Were you on duty on the 15th of July last?

A: Yes, on the day shift.

Q: When did you leave?

A: I left about five o'clock.

Q: What time did the second shift come on?

A: That is the afternoon shift?

Q: Yes.

A: Came on about three o'clock.

Q: That was the shift that was in about the time of the explosion?

A: Yes.

Q: You lowered the miners?

A: Yes.

Q: Did you have any report from the firemen before lowering?

A: No.

Q: The firemen did not report to you the condition of the mines?

A: No.

Q: You have a copy of the Rules. Now, Special Rule No.15 says (reads). You received no report from the fireman at all?

A: No, sir,
