1st Witness,

William Morgan, having been duly sworn states, I knew the deceased Chinaman, his name is Ah Yun. He was working with me in No 3- Level, in the inside Stall. about half past 1.O.Clock P.M. on the 9th instant the last boy had come in & I told him that as soon as he had filled that boy he could go home. I was working in the face taking out some loose coal after a shot & about 5 or 6 feet from the Chinaman. After he com- menced to fill the boy I sent back for a sledge & passed him going & returning. I used the wedge & was in the ast of taking out the loose coal when I heard a fall close behind me & on looking round I could see no light, I called out "So-hu" where are you received no answer. I immediately jumped back to the boy & saw the man lying under it with his head close
