back for 2 days or 3 days at the most. Some go hunting, others prospecting. I go out and make a collection of ferns etc.

May 20th. High old times prevail around camp now, do as we like & plenty to eat. Some often find coal in a creek and come home saying they have struck a large vein but it can't be swallowed by us.

May 21th. Same performances today, hunting bear but no bear to our credit, the cook is the only man in camp working. One of the axemen sits in the same place by cook's fire day after day wonder he does not get stiff.

May 22nd. No sign of the wanderers, guess they are having quite a walk. Surely they'll come back tomorrow.

Mat 23rd. Hunting , chopping wood for the cook, fern collecting occupies
