XVI.

with snow capped mountains in the distance: most beautiful trout are to be caught in its waters: and deer and bear around along its shores. April 22 Today we proceed with the survey line on very rough broken rocky land and only accomplish 1/2 mile after 10 hours arduous work: canoes come and fetch us home: April 23 We are approaching a tolerably high mountain with lots of snow on it but work [illegible] there for two or three days [illegible]: we see some few deer on our [illegible] but cannot carry a gun to kill them with: pass [illegible] good timber land but as usual it has been taken up as we see survey lines have been run thro the best of it. April 24 Sunday once more and we lay on our back most of the day as we have had hard travelling all the week. Some of the boys do some washing
