Wednesday August 18th Page 70 Went over front line with two of the 1st Field Coy CE--Ross & ? decided on a & got distances & courses for shortening 137-138 -- Ross & I cruise shortcut from Dragoon Alley to Boyle Farm Exciting run in open field in full view of two German trenches on Messines slope -- Leg? of 13th lying waiting for burial at La Plus Douve Fme -- man bro't in on stretcher--got by two bullets -- four wounds--Get foresights by holding cap on bayonet above parapet Our front trench knocked down two places yesterday--like a pack of cards--only one hurt. General Lackie approves new trenches laid out by us-- "Royal Edward" sunk in the Aegean by submarine--about 1000 drowned 3 Beartraps not on exhibition at HQ--Fearsome machines like man-traps in Newbury Museum--Cant understand Turner planning deviltry like that Flore Bereumaux is in depth of dejection because we tell her the farmsteading once hers is quite demolished-- Reconnoisance Surveys for 137-138 Cut-off & New Front to Dragoon Alley
