Make a reduction from a R.E. Plan. Take a Two hour walk to Metenen & back across The field. Heavy Artillery fire all day on The left, & much shelling of aeroplanes - Two German planes brought down near Nieppe - One a direct hit - - a wing shot off. - One German aeroplane - an Albatross was not only hit by our anti-aircraft guns , But pursued, hit & driven to earth by one of our aeroplanes, 9am, 200 yds behind our line - Pilot being killed by a MG from our own aeroplane & The observer (Lieut) wounded by shrapnel. In following him our aeroplane dipped to 1000 feet & then got away from enemy's fire unhit. As the hostile aeroplane was coming down & after its descent, when it overturned, the enemy fired at it vigoursly with shrapnel, but did not succeed in destroying it. The aeroplane was from the 33<superscript>rd</superscript> Flying Squadron
