Friday Sept. 3rd 1915
All enemy troops seen within the last three days have been in full marching order
Heavy enemy bombardment to SW. of Messines 6-9 pm.--
121-127- Enemy Working Party on right of crater (Trench 121) dispersed by hand grenade. Enemy replied with rifle grenades. Sniping lively
128-134 - Green flare observed - enemy working party to left of flare stopped
16th go into the trenches -- wet miserable night & trenches knee deep in mud. Baxter & I go to Nieppe to make blue points - Dinner with a refugee family from Le Rossignol. --their cottage torn down by British as it interfered with the line of fire - saved very little furniture -- Name - Jacquet -- We get soaking wet returning. Go to Romarin with Dave Donaldson to dry out, & get my new tunic left to have the sleeves shortened with Mlle Flore -- charge quatr' sous.
