Told off to machine gun section for " Instructional purposes" - taking Colt machine gun to pieces- to Bethune for a bath- some good shops. Buy souvenir " La picca de soixante -quinze" etc. Mme Dubois, Boulangerie- refugiee from 6 km of LaBassee- left home the day before the British arrived.

Still with the machine gun section - grand dinner - Bush, Bateman, Cpl. Morley & Sgt. Maj. Forbes - Mme Dubois shows me a letter she is writing to Ada. Volunteer for " Royal Engineers" as the extra pay is needed at home.

Mme. Rosaline Libessart wants to write Minnie - this girl goodlooking, vivacious - free- easy in fact - poor type - lower town class - get acquainted thru the shoemaker. bringing "Tuck" & I in to treat us with beer & coffee - the latter served in a glass
